How to do it
This Savory is one of the best budget meals you can make at home. Simple, fast, and made with ingredients you already have — ideal for beginners or anyone planning affordable family dinners. Let’s cook smarter, not harder.
Ingredients for the Dough:
- ±1 kg all-purpose flour
- 2 cups warm water
- ¾ cup vegetable oil
- 10 g instant yeast
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Burger Filling:
- 1 kg ground beef
- 200 g bacon (skinless)
- 2 onions
- Chopped fresh herbs (like parsley or coriander)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Mozzarella slices
- Ham slices
- Tomato slices
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
How to Make the Dough:
Start by dissolving the yeast in the sugar. Add the warm water and oil, then gradually mix in the flour until the dough reaches a kneadable consistency. Knead the dough well until smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into rolls, flatten each one, and fill with:
A cooked burger patty
A slice of mozzarella
A slice of ham
A slice of tomato
Close the dough to seal, brush with egg yolk, sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired, and bake in a preheated medium oven (around 180°C / 350°F) until golden.
How to Make the Burger Patties:
Mix the ground beef with the finely chopped or ground bacon (skin removed), onions, herbs, salt, and pepper. If you prefer, process everything together in a food processor.
Shape into burger patties, lightly grease a baking tray, and bake at a high temperature (about 220°C / 425°F) for 15 minutes — just until cooked through. They don’t need to brown fully. Let them cool before using to fill the bread rolls.
