Looking for easy dinner ideas that won’t take hours or drain your wallet? This Candy is quick to make, full of flavor, and perfect for weeknights. A smart way to save money on food while still eating something delicious.
How to do it
This Candy is one of the best budget meals you can make at home. Simple, fast, and made with ingredients you already have — ideal for beginners or anyone planning affordable family dinners. Let’s cook smarter, not harder.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups green figs
- 1.5 litres of water
- 3 cups sugar
Method:
Start by washing the green figs thoroughly and trimming the stems. On the opposite end, make a small cross-shaped cut with a knife.
In a pot filled halfway with water, add the figs and cook until they become soft. Once tender, drain the water and let the figs cool.
Next, place the figs in a plastic bag and freeze them completely. Once frozen, remove the skins under running water — they’ll peel off easily.
In a pot, make a syrup using the water and sugar (or prepare your favourite syrup recipe). Add the peeled figs to the syrup and let it simmer for a few minutes so the figs can absorb the flavour.
Turn off the heat and let it cool. For even better flavour, refrigerate overnight before serving.
Store in the fridge and enjoy your homemade fig preserve anytime! Perfect with desserts, cheese boards, or even on toast.
