Looking for easy dinner ideas that won’t take hours or drain your wallet? This Savory is quick to make, full of flavor, and perfect for weeknights. A smart way to save money on food while still eating something delicious.
How to do it:
This Savory is one of the best budget meals you can make at home. Simple, fast, and made with ingredients you already have — ideal for beginners or anyone planning affordable family dinners. Let’s cook smarter, not harder.
Ingredients – Crust:
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornflour (cornstarch)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 dessert spoon of salt
- 1 cup margarine (220 g)
Filling:
- 200 g diced ham
- 200 g mozzarella or gouda cheese, cubed
- 4 eggs
- 1 packet (50 g) grated parmesan cheese
- 1 can (300 g) of cream (or fresh cream)
- 1 cup plain yoghurt
- Salt and black pepper to taste
How to Make It:
Prepare the crust:
In a bowl, mix all the crust ingredients by hand until a moist, smooth dough forms. If it’s too crumbly, add a splash of milk to bring it together. Wrap in plastic and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Roll and shape:
Roll the dough out and press it into a round glass or removable-base tart tin, covering the base and sides. No greasing needed.
Prepare the filling:
In a blender, combine the eggs and grated parmesan. Add the cream, yoghurt, salt, and pepper, and blend again until smooth.
Assemble:
Spread the diced ham and cheese evenly over the crust. Pour the blended mixture over the top.
Bake:
Preheat your oven to medium heat (180°C / 350°F) and bake for about 40 minutes, or until golden and set.
Let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with a side salad or chutney if you like a local twist.
